Diversity Visa Program for 2020 (DV-2020)

Bertoni Law would like to remind you of the Diversity Visa Lottery Program for 2020 (DV-2020) starting on October 3, 2018 through November 6, 2018.

The Diversity Visa Lottery Program is a program run by the US Department of State that gives foreign nationals a chance to apply for permanent residence (green card). Each year, 50,000 Diversity Visas are available for “diversity immigrants” from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States. There is no cost to register for the DV program, and you can enter each year if you meet the eligibility rules.

How to enter:

Applicants must submit entries for the DV-2020 program electronically at https://dvlottery.state.gov, starting on October 3, 2018. Don’t wait until the last week because the website may experience delays. Be sure you only go to this official website for the U.S. Department of State, and not any fraudulent website that promises multiple entries or requires you to pay. The law allows one entry per person during each registration period.

Read the instructions for DV-2020 in full to review the requirements to see if you are eligible: https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/Diversity-Visa/DV-Instructions-Translations/DV-2020-Instructions-Translations/DV-2020-Instructions-English.pdf

The Department of States has step-by-step instructions about the Diversity Visa Program here.

How to check if you’re selected:

After you enter the program, you can check the status of your entry online at https://dvlottery.state.gov from May 7, 2019 through September 30, 2020. While DV applicants may receive an email from the US government reminding them to check their status online through the DV Entrant Status Check, you will NOT receive a notification letter or email informing you that you won the lottery. Do not fall victim to fraudulent emails.

What to do if you’re selected:

If you are selected in the DV-2020 program, you and any qualifying family members are entitled to apply for an immigrant visa or adjustment of status for permanent residence (green card), starting from October 1, 2019 through September 30, 2020. We encourage selectees to apply for visas as early as possible, once their program rank numbers become eligible. The Bertoni Law team can assist you with every step of the diversity visa (for those outside the United States) or green card application (for those inside the United States in a valid status).
